Argh, does anyone else still have those certain relatives that think getting tagged in a picture means someone is able to steal their social security number? i've got a whole branch of the family tree like that. [>:]

Rasciallymisty -> RE: The Last One to Post, WINs Part II (5/17/2013 10:39:38 AM)

Not that I know of.....otherwise a bunch would have my SS. Another beautiful day but the sun burn is not likeing the sun so here I am. [:D]

FelineFae -> RE: The Last One to Post, WINs Part II (5/17/2013 10:41:20 AM)

Rasciallymisty -> RE: The Last One to Post, WINs Part II (5/17/2013 10:46:37 AM)

LOL or getting to sit inside and stealing the win is even more so....then the sunburn can turn to a wonderful tan.

lovethyself -> RE: The Last One to Post, WINs Part II (5/17/2013 10:50:32 AM)

Not in my family. But we have computer techs in my family. I tend to err on the side of caution with online stuff, just 'cause I don't know a lot about security. Like creating a new email address when I started my cm account, so I could share it without passing on info I didn't want shared (like my full name), and using pics that haven't been posted elsewhere.

They could always do what my sister-in-law did, and have a false name on facebook. Her last name was too hard to spell (something polish and loooong).

Rasciallymisty -> RE: The Last One to Post, WINs Part II (5/17/2013 10:53:06 AM)

That was pretty smart of your sister in law. My brother is taking computer classes so hopefully will be able to clean all the junk out of this one so it runs better.

lovethyself -> RE: The Last One to Post, WINs Part II (5/17/2013 11:03:20 AM)

I think it was more just her getting tired of spelling it for people. Lol.

I've learned my lesson about letting computer people touch my laptop. They mean well, but the last one, one of them tried to fix something, turned the sleep function off while it was running the install/scan/whatever (I can't remember), and no one could figure out how to turn it back on. Not one of the multiple people that professed knowledge could figure it out.

My new rule is, teach me what I should be doing, and I will look into it. Or, I will take it to someone professional. I don't hand my computer over to others to 'fix' for me as a favour.

Rasciallymisty -> RE: The Last One to Post, WINs Part II (5/17/2013 12:18:45 PM)

LMAO that happen with my other one and how I ended up on the lap top. Five people looked at it by the time I took it to a pro they told me to junk it. Sometimes it just easier to just by a new one...hehehehe.

MasterCaneman -> RE: The Last One to Post, WINs Part II (5/17/2013 1:04:21 PM)

That's pretty much the way to go now anyway. By the time most hardware hits the shelves, it's already obsolete. I've got an AOS in IT, and a lot of the stuff you used to be able to do yourself has been removed or made so difficult it simply makes mre sense to take to a certified tech. Take laptops, for instance. Some models require a special tool just to take apart, and the average user isn't going to fork over the dinero just to keep an old unit wheezing along.

A good formula is the one applied to when it's time to get a new car. If the repair costs more than 25% of the current value, it's time to get a new one. Hourly labor varies, but last I checked it was around 65 an hour. And like an old car, once you start, you never really stop. A lot of the goop that lines your hard drive is written to replicate itself so you can't get it out. I save my important stuff on removable media so when my laptop dies, I'm not scrambling to have the info lifted off a dead drive.

lovethyself -> RE: The Last One to Post, WINs Part II (5/17/2013 1:15:50 PM)

Yeah, but my current one is 4 or 5 years old now, and works just as well as when I first got it. I've brought it on gigs with me, used it for presentations, and no problems. But I won't let my dad touch it. Just say no!! He get's my old ones whenever I've upgraded so he can 'tinker' or upgrade the one at the cottage (I think that one is mine from 2 or 3 computers ago). I have to take it in to get the screen replaced though. Oops.

PheonixRose -> RE: The Last One to Post, WINs Part II (5/17/2013 1:20:20 PM)

Lol yea fae and lovethyself my bday is the first of June

MasterCaneman -> RE: The Last One to Post, WINs Part II (5/17/2013 1:22:06 PM)

Happens. Buddy of mine has zero skill with computers, got one for his business, and the first day he takes out the screen thinking it was a touch screen like his phone. Poked it hard enough times with a pen to require replacement. The warranty did not cover it.

lovethyself -> RE: The Last One to Post, WINs Part II (5/17/2013 1:24:25 PM)

MC, I'm not talking hardware fixes. I don't use computers to that extent. Some video, emails, skype. I'm good. Simple things. And I do have most of my important things backed up on usb sticks or external drives (though I've killed those too. They don't like being dropped that much.) But no one is allowed to download or install anything on my computer except me (excluding paid technicians), and I rarely do that myself. I don't care what they think they know.

ETA: One of my housemate tries to do that with my laptop every time he uses it. They have an ipad, and he keeps reaching for my screen. Lol. Fortunately he is very gentle with it. And I rarely let them use it (they did their taxes when the dvd drive on their desktop was dead and they couldn't load the tax software).

Rasciallymisty -> RE: The Last One to Post, WINs Part II (5/17/2013 2:19:09 PM)

I have very little that I would consider important on my puter with all of the ones that have died and crashed I learned a long time ago not to keep stuff on my puters.

PheonixRose -> RE: The Last One to Post, WINs Part II (5/17/2013 6:55:06 PM)

I learned sd cards are important cuz i have so many chipmunk images its not even funny. My chipmunk is very photo hog worthy lol.

I win lol

E2a: i officially am diagnosed by a neurologist with migraines. I have 2 pills i now take for different forms of treating a migraine.

MasterCaneman -> RE: The Last One to Post, WINs Part II (5/17/2013 10:45:16 PM)

Migraines suck. Both my sister and girlfriend suffer from them in varying degrees. No funny pics. Hope you feel better.

lovethyself -> RE: The Last One to Post, WINs Part II (5/18/2013 4:54:13 AM)

Rose, I thought the neurologist visit and tests was to figure out the RLS. How did that come back as migraines? I think I'm confused. Sucks that you're getting migraines too, and that you have pills to take.

I'm going to a rope seminar today with a friend. First one ever for me!! Hell, besides the munch this week, this is my first kink even in 11 years (and do club fet nights really count?).

I'm so nervous, excited, shy about it. I should still be asleep, but I'm wired right now.

After the seminar, I'm going to the cottage for two blissfully relaxing nights. Come home holiday Monday, work for a bit (damn freelance work), then go to watch the fireworks.

I WIN!!!!
